In fact, almost any place is a potential performance hall for Brass 5. Based in Roanoke,
Virginia - the ‘Star City’ - Brass 5 has been an active part of the Mid-Atlantic arts scene
since 1982. Brass 5 performances have been featured on local public radio programs
and broadcast live on National Public Radio. Eager to create exciting music, Brass 5 has
been featured in concerts throughout the Mid-Atlantic United States and Europe.
The "5" offer a vast repertoire from Renaissance,
Classical, Dixieland, Swing and Jazz, to Rock, Country and more.
They easily have something for everyone, young and old alike. Eager to create exciting music, Brass 5 has been
featured in concerts throughout Europe and the Mid-Atlantic area. This performance is supported in part by the Virginia Commission of the Arts.
The ensemble is at home in any size venue, from a 100
seat intimate recital hall to a large auditorium. Brass 5 will have
the audience leaving with a smile and humming any one of its toe-tapping selections.
All of Brass 5’s pieces are specially arranged and through their dedicated practices they cater each performance to their
different audiences by carefully reviewing their song choices. Brian Quakenbush, trumpet player, explains that it’s a
"win-win situation. We suit [the songs] to the current patrons, and we see how they interact and then build on that."
An avid supporter of live concerts, Quakenbush encourages students and parents to explore the music around their community.
"Everything is now accessible with a push of a button, but there’s a cultural value to experiencing live music."
